About the Panel

Smita Das, MD, PhD, MPH

Dr. Das is board-certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and addiction medicine and has over 20 years of research experience in health care quality and addiction. She studied chemistry and statistics at Stanford, completed her master’s in public health at Dartmouth College, and then completed her MD/PhD in community health at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She is a past president of an American Psychiatric Association (APA) district branch and nationally, has chaired the Council on Addictions at the APA, presented to the United States Congress, and is an invited speaker at national conferences. Prior to her position as VP of psychiatry and complex care at Lyra, she was director of addiction treatment services at the Palo Alto VA system. In addition to her work at Lyra, Dr. Das practices in addictions at Stanford School of Medicine where she is a clinical associate professor..

Cal Beyer, CWP

Cal Beyer is the Senior Director of SAFE Workplaces for national nonprofit SAFE Project (SAFE: Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic). Cal is a catalyst, advocate, and a force multiplier to educate, equip, and empower leaders and organizations to address root causes of addiction AND to amplify actions to promote successful recovery solutions in workplaces.Beyer has over 30 years of risk/insurance management and safety/health and wellbeing consulting in the construction, manufacturing, public entity and healthcare industries. He served in national roles for two national insurance carriers. He helped launch the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP) in 2016 while working as director of risk management for a large construction employer. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and events and a regular contributor to publications in various industries.

Darcy Gruttadaro, JD

Darcy previously served as the director of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF), Center for Workplace Mental Health. In that role, she expanded the Center’s national reach through new strategic partnerships and by creating a broad array of high impact tools, trainings, and resources. Darcy received the 2020 APA Leadership Award in recognition of her achievements and stature as a nationally recognized leader on workplace mental health issues. Before joining the APA Foundation, Darcy served in multiple senior level roles at NAMI. She also practiced law at the Harris, Beach law firm in upstate New York.
